Carol Bellamy is Executive Director of the United Nations
Children's Fund (Under Secretary General). She modernized and
streamlined UNICEF for maximum adherence to the Convention on the
Rights of the Child. Previously, Ms. Bellamy was the first
returned volunteer to serve as head of the Peace Corps. She has
had a distinguished career in law and finance. She was a New York
State Senator. She was the first woman President of the New York
City Council. She had a distinguished academic career. For doing
her utmost to enhance the well-being, rights, health, education,
diet, environment and nurturing of all the world's children and
to help minimize their suffering, Carol Bellamy has been named
