Dr. Nafis Sadik is Executive Director of the United Nations
Population Fund. She was the first woman to head one of the UN's
major voluntarily-funded programs (1987-2000). She was Secretary
General of the International Conference on Population and
Development (1990). She is a national of Pakistan who was born in
India. She is a member of the Board of Governors of the
Foundation for Human Development and of the South Asian
Commission on the Asian Challenge. She was President of the
Society for International Development (1994-97). She has written
numerous articles on family planning, health, population and
development and has edited several books. For making many
contributions to improving the health, well being and status of
the women and children of the global community and thus making a
mighty contribution toward peace and toward saving the Earth's
biosphere, Dr. Nafis Sadik has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
