Congressman Elijah Cummings of Maryland's 7th district has a 100% environmental score for 1999, according to the League of Conservation Voters. He is a member of the Government Reform Committee, Ranking Democrat on the Civil Service Subcommittee, member of the Criminal Justice Drug Policy and Human Resources Subcommittee, member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and Ground Transportation and Aviation Subcommittees. He is co-chair of the House AIDS Working Group, Democratic Policy Committee, House Task Force on Health Care Reform and Secretary for the Congressional Black Caucus. In addition to his recent sterling environmental record, he has an impressive progressive record on family values, civil rights, human rights, drug rehabilitation, affordable prescription drugs, Social Security, Medicare, computer and scientific literacy, affordable long term care, the arts, transportation, small business, education, community, census, affordable health insurance, public internet access, affordable housing, Head Start, community policing, police brutality, patient's bill of rights, sustainable employment, women's issues, children's issues, gun control, HMO reform, death penalty reform, foreign policy and on many other issues.
