Congressman Gary Ackerman of New York's 5th district has a
100% environmental score for 1999, according to the League of
Conservation Voters. He is a Senior Member of the House Committee
on International Relations (Ranking Democrat, Subcommittee on the
Western Hemisphere and member of Subcommittee on Asia and the
Pacific), a member of the House Committee on Banking and
Financial Services (Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and
Consumer Credit and Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Securities
and Government-Sponsored Enterprises) and Co-Chair of the Caucus
on India and Indian Americans. In addition to his recent sterling
environmental record, he has an impressive progressive record on
foreign policy, consumers, banking reform, Baby AIDS legislation,
health insurance reform, human rights, civil rights, Medicare,
