Dr. Rebecca J. Goldburg is the head of the Environmental
Defense Fund's Biotechnology Program and works on aquaculture in
the EDF's Oceans Program. She is highly critical of the release
of genetically-engineered lifeform variants into the environment
in the absence of proven safety controls and regulations.
Biotechnology can provide great benefits but also has great risks.
For applying her advanced scientific awareness and excellent
common sense to maximizing the benefits and minimizing the risks
of biotechnology and aquaculture, Rebecca T. Goldburg has been
