Peter H. Raven is the botanist who is doing his best to
coordinate the saving of all the world's plant species. It is
impossible to save all of them but the closer we come to
achieving this goal, the better off the biosphere will be. Raven
expanded the Missouri Botanical Garden into the internationally-renowned
institution that it is today. He has been a National Science
Foundation Fellow, a Guggenheim Fellow and a MacArthur Fellow. He
is the home secretary of the National Academy of Sciences,
chairman of the report review committee of the National Research
Council, a member of the committee for research and exploration
of the National Geographic Society and a member of the
President's Committee of Advisors on Science and Technology. A
possible flaw of Raven's is his connections with Monsanto, a
chemical corporation that has a virulently irresponsible track
record: Will Raven reform Monsanto or will Monsanto pollute
Raven? Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore destroy the plants."
For being the preeminent savior of the world's plant species,
Peter H. Raven has been named Futuresaver of the Week. Click the
