Mary Robinson is the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Her job is to oversee the protection of human rights for everyone in the world to the extent that it is possible and practical to do so given the chaotic and brutal nature of many human institutions and of many human individuals. She knows that protecting and enhancing human rights is at the core of solving international problems from war through environmental disasters. For doing the best that any human being can possibly do to promote and increase human rights throughout the world, Mary Robinson has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
