Truth and Reconciliation Commission is the South African
group which set out to get as much of the truth about what
happened in the apartheid years into the hands of all of the
people and to get as much reconciliation between the opposing
sides of that era as possible. They had many great successes
under the leadership of Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu but truth
and reconciliation still has gaps despite the official end of the
Commission. It should be reconvened in some form. The Commission
created a sterling model for other nations to emulate so that a
genuine peace can be achieved between all nations and other major
groups. The brutal atrocities committed during the years of
apartheid have been laid bare in great detail. If all nations
could have an equally extensive documentation of their recent
historical atrocities and of the people who committed them, the
world would have taken a huge step toward peace. For shining a
searchlight on the reality of apartheid atrocities and for being
an excellent model for the many other nations who harbor brutal
secrets of gross human rights abuses, Truth and Reconciliation
Commission has been named Futuresaver of the Week. Click the
