Richard Durbin, US Senator for Illinois, has a 100% environmental rating for 1997 according to the League of Conservation Voters. He did the right thing for parks, Forest Service road building, environmentally-destructive mining, American Heritage Rivers Initiative, a boondoggle water project, hazardous siting of a nuclear waste dump and international family planning aid. For doing the right thing on campaign finance reform, environmental issues, food safety issues, gun issues, transportation, racial issues, tobacco issues, women's issues, medical issues, communication issues, for tax payers, children's issues, product safety issues, social security and medicare, credit cards, farm and other research, judicial nominees, drug companies, crime lab standards, FDA reform, labor issues, health insurance, the independent counsel, for human rights and on many other issues, Richard Durbin has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
