FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 10-3-98

Marian Wright Edelman is the founder and president of the Children's Defense Fund, America's premier advocate organization for the rights and privileges due to our finest citizens. There is no better predictor for the quality of our future than the quality of our care for our children and the quality of the environment that our children must grow up in. It is a pity that our society seems hell-bent on making rich men richer and poor children poorer. It is a pity that our society is run more by corporate greed than by parental and community caring. It is a pity that family values must take a back seat to the greedy values of the very rich few. Marian Wright Edelman and the other members of the CDF are doing all they can to help eliminate the many ways that many children are disadvantaged. For caring the most about our children and for doing the most she can to help improve out children's future, Marian Wright Edelman has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
