FUTURESAVER OF THE WEEK ENDING 9-12-98

Dale Bumpers, US Senator for Arkansas, has a 100% environmental rating for 1977 according to the League of Conservation Voters. He did the right thing on parks, Forest Service road building, environmentally-destructive mining, American Heritage Rivers Initiative, a boondoggle water project, hazardous siting of a nuclear waste dump and international family planning aid. For doing the right thing on environmental issues, for the average person, for taxpayers, against Star Wars, against the giveaway of public lands, for family farmers, for rural water and sewage programs, for family health programs, for research, for scenic and historic preservation, for rural housing, for education, for medical schools, for Grand Jury reforms, for civil rights, for National Park reforms, for tax reform, against Nato expansion, and on many other issues, Dale Bumpers has been named Futuresaver of the Week.
