Tech Notes:  CSM v. 9.1 flight simulator

csm 3 in 1 simulator

I've recently bought the csm 3 in 1 simulator v 9.1.  I can't speak much on the airplane section of the simulator but the helicopter portion is absolutely great.

The most remarkable and important point to you is that you can use your own transmitter and your own radio settings to fly your very own helicopter in the simulator.  I actually set up my 46VR for 3D flying using the simulator to find the exact positions where the throttle curve needed to be adjusted to keep the rotor rpm constant throughout all my maneuvers.

Using the simulator in this way I actually improved my hovering pitch and throttle curves, and now my helicopter responds a little bit better.

You can create your own helicopter or use one of the preloaded dimensions for the 60 and 30 size helicopters from different manufacturers.

While practicing on the simulator I did notice something very peculiar.  For a CW rotating main rotor helicopter, when given a command for left tail rotor the main rotor rpm displayed on the screen would decrease and the opposite would happen for right tail rotor.  This seemed wrong and I since written and received a reply from CSM.

As it turns out the rotor rpm displayed on the screen is not the true rotor rpm but the instead the main rotor rpm with respect to ground (absolute rotor speed).  Therefore the absolute main rotor speed may increase depending on how fast and in what direction you are yawing the helicopter.

The simulator is very easy to use, and is DOS based.  It is also easy to set up and install.
