TYPES OF GOLF GRIPS

Hold a club and grip it as tight as you can, making it a ten on a scale of 1-10. Think of 1 on the scale being just barely tight enough to hold the club. On this scale a proper pressure should be around 5 or 6. Make sure the tension of the grip doesn’t work it’s way into your upper arms and chest, depriving you of all important distance and feel.
The three different types of golf grips are shown in the opposite diagrams. The type of grip used depends on the personal preference of the golfer. For example, Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus use the interlocking grip, which is generally better for people with smaller hands.
On the other end of the scale, the majority of touring professionals including David Duval and Stuart Appleby use the overlapping grip. Try out the different types of grips and select the grip that best suits you. Depending on your hand size and type of shot you wish to play.
