Hiya all! Just a note to say I am in Oz and having a wonderful time. SA and Soo and all the other Adelaidians are spoiling me silly - and I am loving this most civilized of cities. We are in town for the rest of this week, enjoying the festival and drinking in th arts and then we go for a beach day of replenishment to a beach named (please GOD, let me get this right) Carickalingua, and then a couple of magic days on Kangaroo Island. I'm baaaaaaaaack!!! Much to the disappointment of some and the delight of others! I had a wonderful drive to Vancouver and back. The Mountains were uplifting, the prairies were a great place to speed. Other than one unpleasant encounter with a Michigan St te Trooper (who was willing to take a $75.00 U.S. bribe) the trip was inspiration. The wedding of my son went as planned.. that is, the groom showed up and no one had any reason why they should not be wed, and we had one extraordinary party to celebrate! nd now, back to my regularly scheduled program!

I for one am happy to acknowlege that I too had limited conversations with Bash before he became too ill to continue on irc. Those conversations were upbeat, funny and reflected the soul of a gentle loving man. Ahh Gilbert and Sullivan! What a great way to start a Sunday morning. And such a good tie in with Saline's article about 'the net' It's true, those who's brains can be measured on a teaspoon, have found the internet to be a forum to opinionate at random. But as Sa has pointed out, the internet has also provided an international meeting place to make and keep good friends. Having be n chatting on the internet for some three and half years now, I have found that people here are the same as they are in real life. Nice people are nice on the internet, and small-minded, mean people are small-minded and mean on the internet. Some wield th ir words offensively as they would a gun in real life, and use the internet to nurture obsessive hates. Thankfully, their weapons are only words, and while they can wound, they cannot kill. I am happy to say that the people that I chat with and have met f om the internet, are witty, intelligent, caring and great fun. But then, as in real life, I think we are drawn to our own kind. As for Saline's comments about the movie "You've Got Mail", I have not seen it. From the adverts I've managed to glimpse while ha nel surfing, the only similarity I see between the movie and the real life IRC relationships is that you truly do need the WIDE screen to show the story! That's my Sunday morning opinion, and I'm sticking to it! And now it's time to turn off the computer nd do some real life stuff. After all, I have always said, real life is nothing but IRC without a net!
