Approach to Life
INTP

Topics covered in this document:

Introduction

For most INTPs, it's a live-and-let-live lifestyle.

To study, to follow their inspiration, and to master the situation, then to immediately move on to some new "problem" -- that's what gives meaning to an INTP's life.

At times, their love of problem-solving might grossly overshadow their other inclinations.

Jack of All Trades

So for example, while not being particularly mechanically inclined, they might find the challenge of repairing a broken appliance totally engrossing ... and be willing to expend great bursts of energy in order to master the situation. Once mastered, however, they tend to quickly move on to something else.

They are the quintessential Jacks (or Jills) of all trades and masters of none.

Mental Challenge

Any project -- from taking a vacation, to writing a business plan, to meeting new people, to fixing a leaky faucet -- presents itself as a "mental challenge" to the INTP, who methodically thinks through every stage of the task at hand, from start to finish.

Such thinking may even extend to the use of drawing boards, computer simulations, massive research projects, or anything else that might help to bring sharper focus to the project.

Continuous Improvement

And as always, to create a plan that is open-ended enough to allow for constant improvements along the way.

Once such a grand, all encompassing plan has been developed -- either on paper or entirely in the INTP's mind -- a considerable amount of energy then goes into critiquing and improving upon the "rough draft."

This process -- which may go on for hours, days, weeks, or even months -- is always infinitely more exciting, chhallenging, and stimulating to the INTP than actually doing whatever needs to be done.

Loss of Interest

Sometimes, in fact, once an INTP thinks a project through, he or she may lose interest in it ... for in the mind of the INTP, that project has already been completed -- even if the mind is the only place where that's true.

Intense Concentration

Indeed, when INTPs are conceptualizing -- and they usually are -- it can be extremely difficult to break through their intense power of concentration.

You might find youself saying regularly, "Earth to INTP ... Come in please."
