What's a Typical Toastmaster's Meeting Like?
FUNCTIONS OF CHAIRPERSON (PART ONE OF TWO PARTS)
- Call meeting to order and welcome everyone.
- Introduce members and guests.
- Ask about any outside speeches.
- Introduce the humorist. (Initiate applause)
- Introduce the Toastmaster. (Be seated).
FUNCTIONS OF TOASTMASTER (PART ONE OF THREE PARTS)
- Also welcomes members and guests.
- Briefly describes the following positions:(OPTIONAL: If time allows, this section is used when guests are present)
- Chairperson
- Toastmaster
- Topics Master
- Master Evaluator
- Timer/Grammarian
- Introduce all speakers and their evaluators. (Overview).
- Introduce speaker and brief background - use member resume'.
- Speech importance or purpose (Manual/Objective).
- Speech title (topic/description optional).
- Time limit explanation.
- Initiate applause as speaker approaches the lectern.
FUNCTIONS OF TOPICS MASTER
- Present timing rules for Table Topics.
- Asks table topics questions.
- Call on respondent after question setup.
- Allow one minute for evaluation response.
- Could set up for next questions in this time
- Returns control to Toastmaster. (Be seated).
FUNCTIONS OF TOASTMASTER (PART TWO)
- Introduce Master Evaluator. (Be Seated).
FUNCTIONS OF MASTER EVALUATOR
- Asks for speaking times from grammarian.
- Introduce evaluators and allow response for evaluations.
- Introduce Grammarian to give Grammarian Report. Grammerian gives speech
times and notes any speakers who were disqualified.
- REMIND people to vote for best speaker if there was more than one speech.
- REMIND people to vote for best evaluator if there was more than one speech.
- REMIND people to vote for best table topic speaker if there
was Table Topics.
- Present awards.
- Give general evaluation.
- Return control to Toastmaster. (Be seated).
FUNCTIONS OF TOASTMASTER (PART THREE)
- Quick wit closing remarks or a brief statement to summarize meeting.
- Return control to Chairperson. (Be Seated).
FUNCTION OF CHAIRPERSON (PART TWO)
- Business Meeting.
- Minutes of last meeting (optional).
- Treasurer's report (optional).
- Unfinished / old business.
- New business.
- REVIEW job assignments for next meeting.
- Closing Remarks
- Motion for close.
- Ask for second to the motion.
- Adjourn or close the meeting.
