What's a Typical Toastmaster's Meeting Like?

FUNCTIONS OF CHAIRPERSON (PART ONE OF TWO PARTS)

  1. Call meeting to order and welcome everyone.
  2. Introduce members and guests.
  3. Ask about any outside speeches.
  4. Introduce the humorist. (Initiate applause)
  5. Introduce the Toastmaster. (Be seated).

FUNCTIONS OF TOASTMASTER (PART ONE OF THREE PARTS)

  1. Also welcomes members and guests.
  2. Briefly describes the following positions:(OPTIONAL: If time allows, this section is used when guests are present)
    • Chairperson
    • Toastmaster
    • Topics Master
    • Master Evaluator
    • Timer/Grammarian
  3. Introduce all speakers and their evaluators. (Overview).

    1. Introduce speaker and brief background - use member resume'.
    2. Speech importance or purpose (Manual/Objective).
    3. Speech title (topic/description optional).
    4. Time limit explanation.
    5. Initiate applause as speaker approaches the lectern.

FUNCTIONS OF TOPICS MASTER

  1. Present timing rules for Table Topics.
  2. Asks table topics questions.
  3. Call on respondent after question setup.
  4. Allow one minute for evaluation response.
    • Could set up for next questions in this time
  5. Returns control to Toastmaster. (Be seated).

FUNCTIONS OF TOASTMASTER (PART TWO)

  1. Introduce Master Evaluator. (Be Seated).

FUNCTIONS OF MASTER EVALUATOR

  1. Asks for speaking times from grammarian.
  2. Introduce evaluators and allow response for evaluations.
  3. Introduce Grammarian to give Grammarian Report. Grammerian gives speech times and notes any speakers who were disqualified.
  4. REMIND people to vote for best speaker if there was more than one speech.
  5. REMIND people to vote for best evaluator if there was more than one speech.
  6. REMIND people to vote for best table topic speaker if there was Table Topics.
  7. Present awards.
  8. Give general evaluation.
  9. Return control to Toastmaster. (Be seated).

FUNCTIONS OF TOASTMASTER (PART THREE)

  1. Quick wit closing remarks or a brief statement to summarize meeting.
  2. Return control to Chairperson. (Be Seated).

FUNCTION OF CHAIRPERSON (PART TWO)

  1. Business Meeting.
    1. Minutes of last meeting (optional).
    2. Treasurer's report (optional).
    3. Unfinished / old business.
    4. New business.
    5. REVIEW job assignments for next meeting.
  2. Closing Remarks
    • Motion for close.
    • Ask for second to the motion.
    • Adjourn or close the meeting.
