George Blaurock was born to peasant parents in this village a few miles west of Chur. (The exact date is unknown.) He grew up to become a founding member of the Swiss Brethren tendency of the Anabaptist movement. When he reached his early 20s George was able to take up university studies in Leipzig, Germany.
