Herbalism and Witchery Witches have been working with herbs since there were witches and since before they were called witches. Watching animals interacting with certain plants, communicating with the plant spirits themselves, seeking guidance from their own inner wisdom and that of their spirit guides, women have long worked with herbs both magically and medicinally to help their children, their community, and themselves. My apologies to any male herbalists whom I may offend with my gender assumptions. It is my understanding that in the more ancient times, women were the ones entrusted with the care of everyone's health, while the men had to focus their efforts on hunting and defending the group's territory. This has naturally undergone some change as we have developed agriculture and now industry and technology. Still, herbalism is often seen as a province of women because of these ancient roots. Men are not, however, in any way to be excluded! This site is rather young. I am working on a listing of magical and medicinal correspondences. In the meantime, here are several books and websites that I recommend as sources. Blessed Be. Books on Herbalism or with Some Herbal Info Bonar, Ann.
