The natural function of the male is to scatter his seed to the edge of the world.
The natural function of the female is to receive the best seed and nourish it to fruition.

The first disappointment of the male is the discovery that the world is not waiting for his seed.
The first disappointment of the female is the discovery that the best seed is the most wayward.

The dilemma confronting the male is whether to follow his social commitment to security for his partner and family, or to follow his natural inclination to waywardness.
The dilemma confronting the female is whether to go for the best seed with more chance of waywardness, or settle for the second best seed with more chance of security.

The infidelity of the male is an impulsive act and has little to do with the quality of the relationship with his partner.
The infidelity of the female is a calculated act and has everything to do with the quality of the relationship with her partner -

• a secret act of procreation on discovery of a barren partner
• a petulant act of punishment on suspicion of an errant partner
• a desperate act of insurance on fear of a defaulting partner

Given such diversity of interests there seems little chance of reconciliation - we can hope at best for an uneasy symbiosis.
Or alternatively, having taken stock of the entire situation, we leave it all for what it is and concentrate on spiritual activities and spiritual goals. (With the risk that one day it will come up and hit us at an unexpected moment!)
