WebMagic Site Design
Sharing.... Web Magic Designs... Page
Makers.... Tips.... Credits....

Sharing.... I thought it would be nice to
share some of my sources, since so much has been shared with me on line, to give
credit where it is due as well as to help anyone who is making their own page by adding
links to pages where some programs that I have found useful may be downloaded.
For links and information about other free programs, services and utilities to use
on-line, please see our *User Friendly* page.
For New York based, Mallorca based, and other favorite links of mine please see bruixa's links page. For music program and search links,
please see bruixa's music page.
I do not recieve any compensation in any way from any of these sources for adding this
information, I am doing it only because they are things I have found useful and believe
that they may be useful to others as well.

WebMagic Designs...
If you don't have time to spend in
making your own pages, need some help in designing your site, or even if you have already
designed your site but need more publicity, for example: getting your site reistered
with various search engines... please feel free to e-mail
me.
Use the links below to visit some of the sites I have designed and view my work, as you
will see I am designing many different types of pages... |

I did the original design for this site, but Saroja handles it all now, and it is very
different than what I did originally, still I think it deserves a link here.
She has done an excellent job on her site! |

Page Makers... As for Making your own
Pages...what I started with was Microsoft Front Page Express, a program packaged in with
Internet Explorer...

FrontPage Express
makes everything very simple, you can edit on the page itself, or in the html
color-coded file, I love this feature because html errors show up right away and are easy
to fix. (this version of frontpage is complicated to use if you have any Java
scripts or applets in your pages) All my editing is off-line and is easily uploaded at the
Geocities File Manager site, which
has an FTP thingy called...easy upload (and it really is), or you can use and FTP client,
such as WS_ftp, which is what I normally use.
Although I first put this site up in Geocities, I have since gotten my own domain and use
a web hosting service called HOSTPRO,
which I am very happy with. I've set up the majority of my clients with them.
They are customer friendly, reliable and growing.
I am using FrontPage '98, one of my favorite features is the hyperlink status
check... it shows you any broken links in your site. There are really a lot of
advantages to this program. If anyone has tried FP2000, and has time to send an e-mail, I'd like to know if there are any major
differences between the two programs.
Now, after you've gotten your page together and have published it on the web you'll want
to check out several points, such as loading time & image file size, html code errors,
spelling, popularity, and link status... just go to the Website Garage for a free
tune-up!!!!
My friend Sherry is also a website designer, you can also check out her site:
North by Northwest Web Site Design
She has a variety of services to offer to help you get your page on line and in the
engines.

Tips....
Here is a very cool and new tip that works
with IE5....
ok, you make an icon that has something to do with your site content, unless something has
changed, it has to be 16 x 16 pixels and 16 colors, You save this icon file with the name
favicon and you upload it into every directory on your site. When I·E5 users visit and
bookmark your site YOUR ICON will appear next to the title instead of that little blue
e... Think about how that will make your site stand out in someones favorites list!
If you want to link to another url, and don't want to type in the whole thing and
maybe make a mistake that you don't realize you've made until you've already uploaded the
page and find out the link doesn't work, just open the page you want to link to in your
Browser, go to either FrontPage program and run the cursor over your text-link, click on
the edit hyperlink icon and the url of the page you want to link to will appear in the
little window automatically, accept and.......voila.....you're linked!
Don't forget to use the target="_blank" or " _newwindow" code in your
html, that is... force the browser to open the page in a new window if it will take the
visitor away from your site! There is a difference between the two codes... the
_newwindow code will open a new window, but after that all links from the main page will
open in that window. The _blank code will open another window for every link that
has that code as a target.
I find many things to be easier with FrontPage '98, although the font controls can be a
little troublesome. They will appear differently in Netscape and other browsers than in
IE, so it is best to preview in both browsers major before uploading the files. Most
free and paid Website hosts will accept FP exstensions now.
There is a separate program called Image
Composer, also by MS, which comes with the full FP98 program. I use this along
with Corel Presentations, several Ulead and Xara programs to make backgrounds, fix photos,
create gifs (Ms gif animator comes with Image Composer), and have found a little free
program called jpgopti for compressing jpeg files in realtime, the ulead products, such as
Webrazor or Smart Saver also work well for this as well as regular and animated gifs.
For excellent free programs to use for downloads and web searches
among other things, and links to free software sites, please see my User Friendly page. For a midi files
search engine, please see my bruixa's music page.
Good luck!!
