Perennial Favorites

Holysmoke Religious Quirks:

William M. Branham Home Page - - Holysmoke gets more than it's fair share of flakes, and some of them have some very entertaining views. This site is about the religious assertions of one of our odder ducks, Anthony Grigor-Scott. He's been spending a lot of time talking about these "miraculous" pictures, so go take a look.

The Viking Home Page A brief discussion of modern and ancient Nordic beliefs took place. This site is a one-stop shop of all things "Viking".
Links on the Fringe Each of the links on this page will "take you to a place where \ interpretation runs wild in the service of values profoundly alien to the Euro-American Judeo-Christian capitalist work ethic. From this voyage you may return confused, disgusted, enthused or enlightened -- but hopefully, not bored." Until JJ Hitt goes insane and actually decides to offer a definitive list of his collection of the wierd (EG), maybe this will be a starting point.

Creationism vs. Evolution:

This topic goes on (and on and on...) constantly. These links will take you to a few sites discussing it. If you know of any that specifically explain either side, let me know:
Yahoo Creationist Links
Yahoo Evolution Links
Christian Answers: Creation/Evolution Creationist answers to many of the questions evolutionists have...how many of these have we heard word for word in Holysmoke?
Access Research Network Home Page Thanks to Michael Hardy for showing me this one.
The Dave Horn Creationism Page
Center for Scientific Creation It's got all the Young Earth Creationist "answers", including the pesky Water Canopy
Evolution vs. Creation Science
The Talk.Origins Archive
The Institute for Creation Research

Josh McDowell Refutations

About every two weeks, we have someone coming in declaring they have the final words on whether God exists and have Irrefutable Proof to share....almost invariably, that "proof" turns out to be citations of the writings of Josh McDowell. Regular Holysmokers have refuted the "irrefutable" so often, that they don't always bother to go into lengthy explanations of why they are keeling over laughing when his name is brought up. Naturally, the newcomer mistakenly thinks this means they HAVE no refutation. Here are but a few sites outlining the, er, difficulties with Josh McDowell as "proof":

The Jury is In: The Ruling on McDowell's 'Evidence': Jeff Lowder
Critique of 'Reasons Skeptics Should Consider Christianity': James Still
Skepticism and McDowell's 'Proof': Jerry Borchandt

Abortion Rights

Roe v. Wade Just what does it say, anyway?
Abortion - an Unsolvable Religious Dilemma? information about pro-choice and pro-life points of view from the Ontario Center for Religious Tolerance.
Abortion & Reproductive Rights Web Sites Lots of links pertaining to both sides of the issue.
How to Protect Reproductive Choice

Think the abortion debate is between feminists and religious traditionalists? Think again....
Prolife Feminism
Religious Coalition for Reproductive ChoiceThe purpose of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice is to ensure that every woman is free to make decisions about when to have children according to her own conscience and religious beliefs, without government interference.

Immortality and Other After Death Ideas

Scratch the surface of most religious views, and it comes down to a deep desire to believe that one's self and one's loved ones will not be forever lost through death. Little wonder, then, that what, if anything, comes after death, is an ever popular topic in Holysmoke.

The Scientific Case Against Immortality by Keith Augustine
Commentary on Why I Believe in Heaven/Hell by Alex Matulich
Gentle Godlessness: Heaven and Hell

The AntiChrist

Who is it? John Prewitt think's it's JFK, but Holysmoke frequently breaks out into speculation of who else might qualify...it's even been suggested it might be me.

The Antichrist Update Fill up on paranoia here -- who is the Antichrist, and what new indicators that "the End is Near" should we be looking for?
AntiChrist A list of possible cantidates, including JFK!

Separation of Church and State Issues

The American Center for Law and Justice - - Religious Freedom of expression. "The American Center for Law and Justice is a public interest law firm and educational organization based in Virginia Beach, VA. The ACLJ is involved in pro-family, pro-liberty and pro-life cases."
The Rutherford Institute "The Rutherford Institute is an international, nonprofit, legal and educational organization that specializes in the defense of religious liberty and human rights."
The Separation of Church and State Home Page "Your source for defending Church/State separation in the 1990s!"
The Freedom Forum First Amendment Center Covers not just school prayer, but all 1st Amendment issues

Punny Stuff

Holysmokers are incorrigable punsters. Here are a few sites to incorrige them:
Punny Names Just what it says, a long list of punny names...
Richard Lederer's Verbivore Page "Welcome to the web site woven for wordaholics, logolepts, and verbivores. Carnivores eat meat; herbivores eat plants and vegetables; verbivores devour words. If you are heels over head (as well as head over heels) in love with words, tarry here awhile to graze or, perhaps, feast on the English language.
Chet Meek's Page of Puns Word plays, catchy phrases, and other foolishness.
The Shaggy Pun Test How many of these punchlines do you know?
Verbal Tennis Remember our question-asking thread? These folks have added a point-system to it!

Ad Hominum

Almost every Holysmoker complains about it, and almost every Holysmoker engages in it...but we all appreciate the creative use of it. Tired of just saying "Stupid git"? Then try a few of these...
