The Importance of Customer Service
One of the most important things in customer service is to let the customer or prospect know you want to serve him/her (no gender reference intended here).
Mary Sweeney has these suggestions:
Keep in contact with your customers (prospects). Call them and let them know you want to serve them. They'll love it and appreciate you.
Be prompt and prepared! When you agree to meet with or provide something to a customer (prospect), do everything you can to do this timely. Develop a sense of urgency to please your customers. They'll recognize it. Don't expect them to do the same. Ignoring their faults and not finding blame will impress them.
Jot a note! Be sure to thank them for their considerations, business, information, etc. Whatever it is, give them sincere credit for it. Without the customer, you wouldn't have much. Small efforts can make you very appreciated.
Stop by to visit as a follow-up! Keep your visit brief and be sensitive to what the customer is doing so he doesn't feel you are intruding. Be friendly and caring and show your concern for his satisfaction. He'll remember that.
Keep track of what you do! Develop a method for tracking customer (prospect) contacts and, more importantly, his NEEDS. Selling is fulfulling needs. If you are doing this, the customer needs you as much as you need him...but don't tell him that!

Having and showing a positive and accepting attitude is needed by most persons dealing with the public. It seems they expect that no matter what attitude they show. Ever have that feeling? One can suppose we all have unless you are in a distinct majority. Anyway, we share a note with you from another writer on this subject.
The Impact of Attitude
The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important that the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than families, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. the remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. the only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
