Born in 1964. He obtained Master degrees in physics (1987) and
philosophy (1991) both from Warsaw University. In 1996 he received
PhD in philosophy for the dissertation "Mathematics and the real world.
Philosophical foundations of the applicability of mathematics to
empirical sciences". Currently he is teaching at the Institute of Philosophy,
Warsaw University.
His main philosophical interest includes philosophy of science, especially
physics and mathematics, and formal ontology with logic. His main works were
concerned with the problem of the applicability of mathematics to science
and its ontological consequences. He tried to explain the applicability
of mathematics by generalizing H. Field's method of nominalizing physical
theories. Currently he is
working on the foundational problems in quantum mechanics and on different
approaches to many-valued logic.
He published several articles in different journals, and one book.
Among them are: "Analyticity and Existence in Mathematics" in: In the World
of Signs, (ed. by J.J. Jadacki and W. Strawinski), Rodopi, Amsterdam-Atlanta 1998;
"Qualitative Theories of Space-Time" (in Polish), Filozofia Nauki, Mathematics
and the Real World (in Polish), Warsaw 1998. He was a co-editor of
the anthology What Exists? (in Polish, with J.J. Jadacki, A. Lissowska), Warsaw 1996.
Since the foundation of Philosophy of Science in 1993 he has been a member
of its Editorial Board.
