Traveling to Ashenbinford

The Elves on Terra

So Gwaihir still hasn't found his pen. The long and short of it is this. On our first night camped together on the way to Ashenbinford (in the forest, since we took the shorter route), we are attacked by Drow, and we battle in the darkness of the night and manage to defeat all but one, whom Miranda captures and guards the rest of the way to Ashenbinford. She plans on turning him over to the church of Tier once there, so that he may receive justice.

We arrive in Ashenbinford, and here the memory gets really fuzzy. I'll try to go in "chronological" order. The day after we arrive, the two elves go to see the local mage (Norster, a tiefling) to see if he can help Landroval out at all with his magic stuff. While there, he tells us of something we can do for him in return. It seems Norster had a nephew who took a book of his notes and made off with them in the middle of the night, and Norster wants them back. Unfortunately, the nephew (Tommy the Tiefling) didn't just leave out the back door - he left through a portal that ends up in a different world. Norster explained about the "layers" of the universe, but all Gwaihir really remembers is something about an onion, and he does know about real onions, so he lets his brother worry about the magic stuff.

Anyway, Norster prepares us (just us elves, that is) for the journey: the preparation consists of dressing us in Zoot suits and telling us to make sure we tell people we're from Greenland if they look suspicious. We go through the portal, and we end up in something like 1930s Chicago. My notes from this time period are very brief indeed, consisting of 9 statements of no more than three words each, and two of those I've already told ("Nephew took notes" and "wants them back"). Basically, we were fabulously wealthy and didn't know it, opened a joint checking account at a local bank, got lost downtown, made friends with Tommy the Tiefling as well as Kevin the Doorman and Lou the cabdriver, and to a lesser degree, the local police. We dethroned a local mob boss by taking him back with us to our world, and set Tommy up to take his place. Also, we find an (elf, or half-elf?) named Mack who's been stuck in this world for years, and who's made a name for himself as an assassin. We of course invite him to come back with us at Norster's prearranged time, and he gladly accepts. Another outcome of this adventure is that Landroval obtains some period weapons that use some kind of chemical explosion to propel very small crossbow bolt things. Oh, and because of the way time works (it passes at different rates at different levels of the onion), the week we spent on Terra only took a few days in our own world.
