Eating in Korea

Korean cuisine is one of the least known of the Asian cuisines.  Korean food is substantial, hearty, salty and spicy, really spicy.  Rice is the principal grain and is served for every meal!!!   Various flavored or fermented vegetable side dishes and fish accompany the rice and soups and stews are prominent.  Soy sauce, soybean paste, crushed red pepper, garlic, ginger, sesame seed and salt are the principal seasonings in Korean cooking;  red pepper, garlic and salt are used liberally.

At home, all three meals are basically the same, with differing side dishes.  Rice is the meal - all else is secondary.

Eating a meal in Korea consists of sitting down on the floor and fighting with chopsticks!!! Here I am trying to get some food in my mouth.

The most popular side dish in Korea is kimch'i.

There are also some amazing traditional Tea Houses in Korea.  I enjoyed spending time there and tasting all of the different teas.  Here I am in one tea house.
