Sorak Park
4:29 a.m.

Last night after I got off the phone with my dad I fell asleep right away - around 8 p.m. I just can't shake this jet lag. Now I don't know if I'll be able to get back to sleep. . . .

. . . They have slippers in every hotel room. . . . When you walk in the room you have to insert your room key into a slot to turn on the lights so that you can't leave them on when you leave. [They only give you one room key.] Even the toothbrush and toothpaste in the hotel rooms are not complimentary.

Before meals you are given a disposable cloth with which to clean your hands. Chopsticks are used at every meal, all of the food is served at once instead of one course at a time as in the West, and when there is a dessert, it is merely something sweet-tasting to drink. It can drive you crazy after awhile.

Singing and drinking are very popular here. There is a karaoke club in every hotel [always divided into private rooms] and a karaoke machine on every bus. The cover charge in clubs is often a minimum order of drinks which can cost as much as $75. This hotel has a casino[, a bowling alley,] and a pool hall as well. They exchange money at the front desk - at a much better rate than I got in the States. I think I may have been ripped off. All useful information for future travelers to Korea. Now I'm going to try to get back to sleep.
