Career:
Web Site Developer
|
Education:
I'm currently pursuing a Master's Degree at CSU Hayward in educational
technology leadership, which is basically about the application of multimedia
in the field of education.
|
Skills
before taking the course: I didn't have any experience in multimedia.
But, I have a business degree from Germany. I have worked with analog
media for about 4 years, 2D-animated film production, to be exact, which
has helped me to set up and keep track of projects. Even though there
is a big difference between linear (film) and non-linear computer-related)
media, the basic aspects of the work flow are pretty much the same.
|
Skills
after taking the course: I have learned to use a number of tools, such
as Dreamweaver, Director, Photoshop, Image Styler, etc. Even more importantly,
I have learned to approach new tools with an open mind, knowing that they
all pretty much respond to the same logic. If you are familiar with one
application, you'll be able to quickly teach yourself to use others. In
addition, I can use the internet efficiently, write HTML, Java Script, and
Applets. |
Benefits
of Multimedia Courses: The multimedia program has opened the door to
a new career for me. I have done some work on a contract basis and feel
quite confident to venture deeper into the field. |
Benefits
gained out of the course: I have discovered a specific niche in the
field that I am now getting into, which is the use of multimedia for instructional
purposes. |
How
I entered the field of Multimedia: I am one of those people that are
changing careers to this new field. After a "baby-break" and having moved
to the US, I first wanted to go for a CPA (accountant). I took courses at
Ohlone to brush up on my accounting and taxation skills. During this time
I stumbled across Valerie Landau's course called "Web Site Design". Since
I had just discovered the Internet and was an enthusiastic user, I decided
to take the course just for fun. It turned out to be so much fun that I
decided to stick with multimedia altogether. Especially another course "Designing
an On-line Course" really fascinated me. I am thrilled by what Multimedia
in general and the Internet in particular have to offer for education. Overall
I enjoy playing around with the various applications. The field (multimedia)
is so many-facetted and constantly growing or redefining itself that I doubt
I'll ever get bored. |
