Delphi

This statue is of the Roman period. Date CE 130- 138 it is a statue of Antinous, beloved friend of Emperor Hadrian. After his death Hadrian honored him by establishing cults in Delphi which in turn erected statues of the young man.

In the ancient city of Delphi there are several treasuries of the city-states of Greece during the ancient period. This one is the Treasury of Delphi, which was dedicated by the city to honor the Delphic Oracle.

The theatre at Delphi is         arranged in the classical  Greek way. Improved throughout the ancient years , the theatre holds a typical 5,000 people.

The temple of Apollo house several altars to different gods and even a throne dedicated to Apollo by the poet Pindar. The first picture is that of the south  end of the temple with its remaining columns, the second is the whole of the temple.

A typical road sign in Greece, this one means leaving Delphi city limits. So I suppose its time to move on to Epidaurus and its great Theatre.
