The Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex has experienced tremendous growth over the last decade. The area is rich in cultural and recreational opportunities. Whether you have children, or are a child at heart, there are many things to do in the Dallas area to help get your mind off internship, dissertation, etc. Yes, interns ARE allowed to have a life (sort of)!

Fun Facts

Dallas has four times more restaurants per person than New York City.

The Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, larger than the island of Manhattan, is one of the busiest airports in the world.

The African American Museum in Dallas has one of the largest collections of African-American folk art in the nation.

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden has the largest public selection of azaleas in the United States.

The Six Flags Over Texas theme park next to Dallas is larger than Disneyland.

Dallas has the largest urban arts district in America.

Texas ranks second behind California as a pleasure travel destination for U.S. residents.

The world's largest bronze monument, standing at the Dallas Convention Center, has more than forty bigger than-life long-horn steers, horses and cowboys in a Texas cattle drive.

There are over 160 museums, galleries and artistic attractions in Dallas-and more than 110 live performances per night.

In July of 1958, the integrated circuit computer chip was invented in Dallas. Dallas has the nation's third largest concentration of high technology companies and employees and is referred to as the "Silicon Prairie."

The chicken fajita was also invented in Dallas. This Tex-Mex specialty is made of distinctively marinated, grilled meats, flour tortillas, tomatoes, chili peppers, avocados and sour cream.

Dallas has more shopping centers per capita than any other major U.S. City.

There are 50,000 acres of public park land in Dallas and over 60 lakes within a 100 mile radius of the city.

Dallas is the least densely populated major metropolitan area in the world.

Excellent research libraries in the city include The University of Texas at Dallas Health Sciences Center (UTDHSC), Southern Methodist University Library, University of Texas at Dallas Library, and the Dallas Public Library. Other Metroplex university libraries include those of: University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Woman's University, Texas A&M-Commerce, the University of North Texas and Texas Christian University.

Dallas has many psychological continuing education opportunities. UTDHSC offers Psychiatric Grand Rounds. Local organizations include the Dallas Psychological Association, Dallas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Association of School Psychologists, and Association of Dallas School Psychologists. Dallas hosts state meetings such as Texas Psychological Association, Southwestern Psychological Association, and Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
