Welcome to the GMHS web page about rabies awareness. Here you will find information and resources concerning rabies, the still prevalent viral disease that could be as close as your backyard. There is an extensive list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) which can anweser most of your questions about rabies and educate you further on the subject. There is also a list of links to other rabies resources on the internet which opens the door to further research about the topic.

National News:

  • Rabies Airdrop Resumes Today - (KINGSVILLE) -- It's up and away again this morning for the largest airborne assault on rabies in the world. Three airplanes will take off from the airport in tiny Kingsville, south of Corpus Christi... loaded with one-Million packets of coyote bait laced with rabies vaccine. Project Director Gayne Fearneyhough says the goal is to control and eradicate a virulent strain of rabies that entered Texas from Mexico in 1988 and is blamed for two deaths in the state. Fearneyhough says the strain... which affects dogs... is the most vicious in the world... responsible for up to 100- thousand deaths each year.
