Rabies Airdrop Resumes Today -
(KINGSVILLE) -- It's up and away again this
morning for the largest airborne assault on
rabies in the world. Three airplanes will take
off from the airport in tiny Kingsville, south of
Corpus Christi... loaded with one-Million packets
of coyote bait laced with rabies vaccine. Project
Director Gayne Fearneyhough says the goal is to
control and eradicate a virulent strain of rabies
that entered Texas from Mexico in 1988 and is
blamed for two deaths in the state. Fearneyhough
says the strain... which affects dogs... is the
most vicious in the world... responsible for up
to 100- thousand deaths each year.
