WEEK 8: Aug 12 - 16
Poet-in-Residence: RICHARD FOERSTER
Workshop: Title: "Writing about Nature from Within"
Description: When poets write about the natural world, what are they revealing about human nature? This workshop will explore how our outward focus on nature, when sharpened through the artistry of the poem, can not only probe deeply into the world around us but also cast light onto the one within. Each session will begin with a brief discussion of an exemplary nature poem that attempts to forge that link. Students should bring to class two or three drafts of poems that arise from close observation of some natural phenomenon. The aim of the workshop will be to generate appropriate strategies for revision.
M-F 8:30-10:30 a.m., CLSC Alumni Hall
Prose Writer-in-Residence: LAURA KASISCHKE
Workshop: Title: "Mystery and Memory for the Fiction Writer"
Description: In this workshop,
we will focus on the way in which writing can introduce us to ourselves via
memory and imagination. Our exercises and discussion will be particularly
directed toward generating new work, so that you will go home with urgent
writing to do. We will also workshop one piece of writing by each participant.
