What We Have To Offer

  • Committed Christian staff – our staff are growing disciples of Christ who are committed to helping their students become ever more Christ-like.  They have a personal vibrant faith that has real life significance.
  • Accredited School – Alberta Learning inspects our program and operations and our student’s course work meets all government standards.
  • Alberta Program of Studies / Christian curriculum – LWCA meets or exceeds the government requirements for curriculum and programming.  Our curriculum is based on the Alberta Program of Studies.  We use a variety of texts and resources including those from Christian Textbook publishers.  Our emphasis is upon creating in our students a Christian Worldview that shows that all of creation is the Lord’s and all knowledge must be brought in line with God’s truth.
  • Certified teachers – All of our teachers hold Alberta teaching certificates.
  • High academic standards – We work closely with the students and parents to develop the full potential of the student.
  • Low student-to-teacher ratio – Classes average about 15 students per teacher.
  • Affordable tuition – Our tuition is competitive with other private schools in Western Canada.
  • Student Uniforms – Uniforms help create a sense of belonging and set the tone for diligence in school.  Uniforms remove unhealthy comparisons and are both a financial and “getting ready in the morning” relief for the parents.  Students learn that it is important to look their best.
  • Tuition bursary program for families in need – Tuition bursaries are granted based on need demonstrated through an application.
  • Warm, caring environment where students develop lasting friendships.  We work with the students to promote loving, just relationships among the students and to develop responsibility.
  • Opportunities for parent involvement in their child’s education – Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom, go on field trips, serve on the board or committees, and participate in general meetings.
  • Emphasis on developing the whole student: character, mind, and body.  LWCA believes that the school operates in lieu of parents and therefore has the responsibility to develop the whole person, not just the academic person.
  • Access Parkland School Division bussing – Anyone within the district limits can use the bus to get to Living Waters Christian Academy.
  • Spruce Grove is 15 minutes from the west end of Edmonton.
  • Beautiful new facility.  Our school building was built 6 years ago and contains a gymnasium with stage, 8 classrooms, science lab, music/band room, kitchen, library, and computer lab.
  • Rural Location – We are on 5 acres on Campsite Road between Highways 16 and 16a.  We are about 4 minutes from downtown Spruce Grove and about 8 minutes from downtown Stony Plain.  Some of our students walk or bike from Spruce Grove in the summer.

School Profile

LWCA was founded in 1992 due to the prayerful vision of a group of people who saw the need for Christian education for their children.  Feeling compelled by the biblical command to raise their children in the fear and nurture of the Lord, they recognized that this could not be fully accomplished until all areas of life, including the academic training of their children, were brought under the Lordship of Christ.  Much planning and preparation took place before the school opened in a strip mall in Stony Plain.  The school grew and was blessed with a new facility on Campsite Road in Spruce Grove in 1994.  The school continues in its commitment to provide Christ-centred, Bible-based curriculum.  Until students recognize that God is the centre of all things, they have not understood the Real World.

Each school day begins with staff prayer meeting and class devotions.  Students are encouraged to pray for one another and to share their concerns and thanksgivings.  We have weekly chapel services and once a month a local pastor is invited to speak.

Comments arising from the visit of a delegation from Omsk, Russia.

The Russian delegates were ‘touched` by LWCA’s Christian philosophy and long-range strategy of education to train children to become caring citizens, respecting others and revering God.  On many occasions during their visit to Canada they remarked about our success being directly linked to Christian values and to prayer.  “Our prayers have been answered!”

Where do we fit in the Alberta Education System?

LWCA is an accredited private school, which means that we receive a grant from the government based on our enrollment on September 30.  This grant covers about 1/2 of the cost of basic education for a student.  Tuition fees and donations cover the rest of the cost.  All capital costs, which include facilities, equipment, playground development, etc, are financed through fund raising and the donations of parents and other supporters of Christian Education.

LWCA is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International and the Association of Independent Schools and Colleges of Alberta.

Staff

The staff and teachers of LWCA are all disciples of Christ committed to their own spiritual growth so that they can model Christ’s love in action.  All teachers are certified to teach in Alberta.  Teachers attend professional development workshops including those for Christian educators.  We utilize the services of Special Education personnel and chartered psychologists.
