Today's Glimpse...

May 29, 2001

Have you not just called to me: `My Father, my friend from my youth,
will you always be angry? Will your wrath continue forever?'
This is how you talk, but you do all the evil you can."
Jeremiah 3:4-5

In reading this yesterday I was struck by how much God wants us to return to him with all our hearts when we have strayed... so much so that he CONTINUALLY makes a way for us. Verses 1-5 of this chapter reference Deuteronomy 24:1-4 where God established legally that if a woman was divorced from her first husband, married again and then divorced from a second husband (or if he dies) it was absolutely impossible for her to ever return to the first husband - that was detestable to God. If that was how he felt about that situation imagine how much more strongly he felt about his bride being unfaithful, prostituting herself, divorcing herself from him... could he ever allow her to come back to him? BUT... amazingly enough, it is God's heart to be reconciled to his bride and he makes it possible! This helps me understand the heart of God in being so patient with me as I grow and change. There is nothing that is too great for God to forgive or help me work through so that I can be one with him.

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,
neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us
from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. "
Romans 8:35, 38-39
