"The priest's did not ask, 'Where is the Lord?'
Those who deal with the Law did not know me;
the leaders rebelled against me.
The prophets prophesied by Baal, following worthless idols."
Jeremiah 2:8
God had especially scathing rebukes for those who were supposed to exercise leadership over his people. The theme is found many times in Jeremiah and all over the Bible.. those who are entrusted to teach, lead or shepherd in any capacity (and that's all of us) are expected to be faithful in that trust. Not perfect but faithful in leading the people to God! The charge against them was not knowing God... truly KNOWING him not knowing about him or having an intellectual knowledge about him but having a personal relationship. This applies whether we are leading in a formal capacity, leading our own children, leading non-Christians teaching them about God, discipling another person... any shepherding. The good news is, all we are really responsible for is loving God with all our heart, striving to KNOW him daily and leading other people to him! I tend to get lost or overwhelmed in the 'need' to be perfect, which isn't possible anyway... God doesn't strap that burden on my back.. he only wants me to love him!!
ps... no Glimpses for a few days as I'm going out of town on vacations (Yahoo!!)
