Academic Booster Bowl V
A spirited crowd
gathered in the Central High School auditorium Thursday, January 28th as
four community teams vied for the title of champion in Booster Bowl V.
The night’s opening match saw the Saturn team shake off a sluggish start
to oust a determined Culleoka team 220-180. The second semi-final
match witnessed a scoring spree by the CHS faculty team in the final two
minutes to pull out a 250-190 victory over the Alumni
team.
The community finals saw a three-way battle pitting the two winners and the Alumni by virtue of their higher score in the semi-final. A tight game early turned into a rout as the faculty team seemed to get stronger as the night wore on. The faculty win marked the first time a previous champion has won the Booster Bowl and set up the much-anticipated battle against the 99 A-Team. The A-Teamers started strong blasting out to a 60-0 lead but the faculty steadily cut into the lead and built a 180-140 lead of their own heading into the match’s two minute phase. There the faculty ended any hopes of a comeback by getting the first twenty point toss-up and bonus. The A-Teamers nailed a meaningless twenty pointer as time expired to close out the scoring at 260-200.
The Academic Team thanks all the teams and fans who supported our fifth Booster Bowl.
The Booster Bowl is a joint effort of the A-Team and the CHS Academic Boosters.
