Using Video in Multimedia

The visual realism offered by video technology has been an important component of instruction since television and videodisc technology. However, with the development of digital technology, the current trend in multimedia is to digitize the video and deliver it on a computer. "Digital video is the engaging of multimedia venues, and it is a very powerful tool to bring computer users closer to the real world" (Vaughn 320).

In the past, video had been defined as multimedia. Digital video makes use of all of the elements of multimedia, bringing products and services alive. Carefully planned, well-designed video clips can make a dramatic difference in a multimedia project. Although video is the most powerful medium for multimedia documentation, it is also the most expensive to produce.
