Why use animation?

Animation does not need to be complex. Most users, usually, prefer simple animated objects that can be easily followed on the screen. Use it to convey change, movement, and progress. Some instances where animation may be used effectively include:

  • To show objects that move and change.
  • To analyze a process or procedure.
  • To explain abstract concepts.
  • To improve comprehension of information.
  • To increase interest.
  • To focus the user's attention.
  • To handle sensitive subjects.
  • To show dangerous subjects.

Animation adds visual impact to a multimedia project. Vaughan stresses that animation can very quickly become trite if improperly used. He indicates the importance of using it sparingly to achieve the greatest impact (310).
