The Writer's Role

"Multimedia writers do everything writers of linear media do, and more. They create character, action, point of view, and they also create interactivity" (Vaughan 42). The writer's responsibility, just as in other writing assignments, is to produce a well-written project. After much research, gathering information from the subject matter expert, synthesizing the information, the writer must "communicate it in a clear and concise manner" (Vaughan 43).

In a multimedia project, the writer must be versatile. Multimedia writing requires that one be able to adjust from working alone to working in a group environment. For a writing project that is developing paper documentation, the writer usually has much more control over the actual writing and design issues. However, as part of a multimedia development team, the writer has to discuss decisions, once made by the writer alone, with the other media specialists on the team.
