Welome to Williamsburg, Virginia!

MAIN MENU

It's time for you to familiarize yourself with your new home. The man who purchased your contract is named James Geddy Jr. Use the links provided to complete your final travel log entries.

Task #1

Describe James Geddy Jr. and his family. What kind of business does your master run? What kinds of skills do you expect to learn while working for the Geddys? Include a picture or drawing of the Geddy house.

Task #2

Mr. Geddy is an important businessman in Williamsburg. The economic principle of mercantilism drove colonial economies. Research mercantilism, ask yourself the following questions: what was it? How would this policy help England? What advantages would it have for the Colonists? After you have answered these questions, draw a political cartoon illustrating these answers. Attach your cartoon in your travel log.

Task #3

Choose one aspect of daily colonial life that interests you. In your travel log, explain your topic. For example, if you chose colonial clothing, include a drawing or picture with the various parts of the ensemble labeled.

Task #4

The 1700's were a tumultuous time in the American colonies. Create a timeline for the years of 1770- 1777. Your timeline should have one significant event that occurred in the colonies each year. Justify why you choose to include each event in your timeline.

Task #5

In your last travel log entry, respond to these questions. If you could travel back to the 1700's, is this the life you would have chosen? What path would your life take when your indentured servitude contract is completed in 1777?
