| The
silkworm will use the spinneret under its mouth to make a support
strand of silk. Next, its body will become U-shaped and the
silkworm will make figure 8 loops with its head. For 3-4 days this
process continues until the the cocoon is completed.
Safe
inside the cocoon, the silkworm molts, becoming a pupa for
10-14 days. While in the cocoon the final metamorphosis from
pupa to moth gradually takes place.
