Raising Silkworms
Once the metamorphosis is complete, the moth makes a small hole in the cocoon and frees itself.

The adult moths cannot fly and do not eat.  Their only job is to lay eggs.  They may live for about a week.  Female moths lay between 300-500 eggs in neat rows during this time.

The eggs are yellow at first but quickly change to a gray color.  These eggs can be saved for the following spring by storing them in a cool, dry place.
