INFORMATION SHEET

AWARD $250 scholarship. Other scholarships may be awarded at the recommendation of the judges
and with the approval of the Session of The Reformed Presbyterian Church in Oswego.


APPLICATION (1) This three-page form and (2) an original vocal composition for the selected Psalm text
including dynamics, tempo and name of tune along with (3) optional program notes about
the composition and its relationship to the Psalm text. Do not put your name on your
composition or optional program notes,
but staple this/these to this form for identification
purposes. Please use a music software program to print out your piece if at all possible.
The compositions will be assigned a number by the Vocal Music Teacher at Oswego High
School and then be referenced only by this number in the judging. Place these items,
unfolded, in a plain manila envelope and deliver or send them to the OHS Vocal Music

ELIGIBILITY Students in grades 9-12 in the Oswego City School District area, including public, private and home school students, who are studying music theory with a certified music teacher.

JUDGING: Dr. Robert Copeland, Professor of Music at Geneva College, Beaver Falls, PA and one or two other professional musicians of his choosing.

January 15 - Session of the Reformed Presbyterian Church publicizes Psalm text

April 1 - Compositions submitted to the Vocal Music Teacher at Oswego High School

April 7 - OHS Vocal Music Teacher submits compositions, identified only by number, to Dr. Robert Copeland of Geneva College, Beaver Falls, PA

May 1 - Dr. Copeland announces winner to OHS Vocal Music Teacher and Oswego Session, returning all compositions to the OHS Vocal Music Teacher

June, early - Award presented at a spring vocal concert at which concert the winning composition will be performed.

PURPOSES:

To encourage students in the exercise and development of their compositional skills.

To improve the quality and quantity of our Psalm tune literature.

To introduce and promote Psalm-singing to our community.

NOTES

Right of Use

The Reformed Presbyterian Church in Oswego and The Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America will have the right to use the winning tune/s in their worship, fellowship and in future editions of their Psalter.

RPC Students

Students who are members or adherents of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Oswego will be encouraged to participate in this scholarship since officers, members and adherents of the congregation will participate only in presenting the scholarship award and not at all in the compositional instruction or in the selection process.
