Deacon Board Report
1999-2000

At the outset we give thanks to God, the source of all mercy, grace, discernment, wisdom and compassion, Who has given unto us the works of the ministry of mercy and the stewardship of the congregation. We are grateful beyond description for such a mission and such a privilege.

In the ministry of mercy entrusted to us we have used alms to meet pressing needs of families and individuals during the past year. These needs have been primarily from within the congregation, however, we have not ignored needs from the outside. Such was the case when the congregation generously and justly made provision for Pastor Harold Harrington. Mercy was extended where we had opportunity, discernment and provision to do so. Further, where there was opportunity, we provided guidance and biblical counsel in questions on household budgeting and principles of giving. As we consider our service in the light of the Scriptures, the diaconate looks forward expanding the ministry of mercy. We challenge the congregation to follow our example in the meeting of pressing needs, which is the responsibility of the whole church and not just the deacons.

As stewards we have worked with the treasurer, prepared the annual budget in conjunction with the session, handled various maintenance issues and responded to other assignments from the session. We expect to expand our administrative oversight in the coming year largely due to the maintenance needs of the new facility. This will be a joyful task.

We continue to covet your prayerful support. As in our last report, the diaconate wishes to encourage the congregation to let the deacons know if there are needs to be addressed which you are unable to satisfy yourself. We are here and called to serve you.

Your Fellow Servants in Christ Jesus,
