Kenia and her sister Judy came to the orphanage in September, 1998. Even though she was only 6 months old, already she had lived in pretty desperate circumstances. Her mother abandoned the girls, and her father is in prison. They lived with their grandmother, a widow, who had to work long hours cutting lemons, and had no one to care for the girls while she was working. There were times when the girls went hungry.
