Carara National Park.

Nestled between Costa Rica's drier northwest and more humid south, Carara National Park is part of an important ecological transition zone rich in flora and fauna. Much of the 47 - square - km. reserve is covered in primary forest growing on steep slopes, and studded massive trees laden with vines and epiphytes. Carara is one of the few areas in the country where you can see scarlet macaws, easiest to spot in the early morning and late afternoon. Lucky birdwatchers may also see the coveted jacamar and several species of trogons. Monkeys, crocodiles, armadillos and peccaries also live Carara. The park is about 2 hours from San José on the road between Puntarenas and  Jaco Beach

This National Park is the best option, if you want to see birds. And at the same time see the real rainforest. From the ground. Carara it is the located just 25 minutes way from Jaco. This place it has an extension of 11600 acres. You will have a walking tours with a tour guide for more than 3 hours.
At the lagoon you can see a lots of birds and maybe some animals like crocodiles and others.  Something else that you have to know is, that in Carara National Park is the second largest population of the Scarlet Macaw, if you go in the morning trip maybe you will have the chance to see it.
