Independent Learning Exercises.
In the grey zone notes for this week I ask a large number of questions
about heritage sites and objects - and a full response to each of them
is really a pre-requisite for constructing a good heritage interpretation.
It would probably be worth selecting one of the sites, objects or ideas
on your individual assignment shortlist and trying to assemble materials
that provided the answers to these questions. This will be much easier
for some topics than for others, and you should take the ease of assembling
materials into account when you select a topic. For a major heritage site
there are almost bound to be a selection of books and guide books available
to provide you with background; for a quirky, minor subject this might
be more difficult - but might not, you have to do a bit of research and
see. Make a note of how much time this research task takes you, and factor
it into your 'time budget' for the module.
