elegy for a negative creep ![]()
the lights are out
is it less dangerous
surely you have not come about
in realizing what you did was monstrous
you wrote off lines that made no sense
did you love yourself more than any one else
the world around us was not nonsense
besides, 27 made no difference to anyone else
people did not tell you what you wanted to hear
they did not mean to stare
and what is wrong with never knowing fear
you seemed to say you did not care
the world will remember greasy blond hair
to your true fans, your death did not come easy
your music was nothing like sid's rebellious air
it was an exciting aneurysm; it was so pretty
you'd finally found your heroine
but she also had a favourite inside source
it was your choice to use it as medicine
this parasite was using you as a test course
john lennon was your hero,
wow is god truly gay
i wish you luck in attaining nirvana anyhow
don't worry, society will mend someday
did you really need some help
not for once you were a negative creep to me
i never realized till it was about to melt
that your life was far from being glee
if, for you, burning out
was truly better than fading away
then my anger has blacked out
and my peace with you will come back each day
was it truly time to make all unclear
truth was covered in security
everything is so hard to bear
thanks for your peace, love and empathy
you touched so many and so far
you tried to heal and feel the world
you were right that we should come as we are
rest in peace kurt cobain

This poem was written by someone very close to me for an English course about two weeks after the death of Kurt Cobain. If you were like him, and me, then you were shocked and angry. You didn't really want to care, but you definitely considered it to be a loss to the whole planet. Well, the planet has survived, and for some reason, so has this poem.
