Landru and LanDru

Some people on IRC have asked about the nick RKon. It's not all that complicated really. In my early days on the Net, I used all sorts of nicks, usually some permutation of my own names. However, they were so common that I was forever meeting myself, and adding a ^ or a _ to my all too common nick. I wanted to have something a little different. Well, low and behold, I was watching an episode of Star Trek TOS (the original series) and hit upon it. The episode was, of course, The Return of the Archons, and I quickly corrupted the word archon into the more net worthy RKon. And the rest, as they say, is history...
But, wait, there is more! And this will require a lesson is Star Trek lore. So, bear with me!

Star Date 3156.2: The crew of the USS Enterprise arrives at the planet Beta III (in the C-111 star system) in an attempt to trace the disappearance one hundred years earlier of a space ship named Archon. They find a somnambulistic society that is ruled by a computer named Landru. Many thousands of years earlier, it seems, Landru was a great leader who showed his warring people the way to peace and tranquility: rule by a computer.
Landru programmed the computer with all his knowledge and allowed it to rule the lives of all the people on the planet. They meet Landru in the Hall of Audience, where a hologram of the original 'human' Landru spouts words of wisdom to the lawgivers. All people must submit to the Will of Landru, and be of the body.
In order to remove violence, Landru has ordained a time of Festival, when the inhabitants go wild and commit all sorts of murder and mayhem. When Festival is over, however, they return to their calm and dull lives.
The crew of the Archon had met just such a fate, and it is the turn of the Enterprise's crew to be similarly blessed. As you may have guessed, this does not meet with the approval of our intrepid Captain Kirk. To make a long story short Kirk argues with the computer until such time as it self-destructs from it own logic. And everyone lives happily ever after...

So who is LanDru? Since I had chosen to go with the nick RKon from The Return of the Archons, it only seemed logical that my bot, when I got it, should be named Landru too. Of course, I had to netify it a bit to LanDru. So, there is the story of Landru, LanDru, RKon and ARKawn, in case you were really staying awake at night trying to figure it out. :þ~
