This is cool! I'm amazed at how many hits I found. I started reading MacLean as a kid in the sixties. I began with HMS Ulysses and was hooked. I even kept up with him during his "lesser years" in the seventies and eighties as his edge blunted a bit. I was greatly saddened by his death, and don't understand why he is no longer in print. I have two young boys and can't wait until their old enough to start them on the best adventure writer since Stevenson. Does anyone know if they ever made a film version of Night Without End? The book cover I had in the old days mentioned a soon to come "major motion picture" starring Debbie Reynolds (a proper MacLean protagonist's name BTW). Did anything ever become of this?

"Eagles Dare" was the very first MacLean book I read, and boy was I disappointed in the movie. Clint Eastwood is not Morris Schaffer, in my opinion. Too bad they couldn't have used the dialogue from the book instead. "Java Head" was the only book I've eve finished in 4 hours. Great book.

Hi! I have been an A.M. fan for many years. For years I thought The Dark Crusader and The Black Shrike to be two books (reason is, I only read The Black Shrike in dutch!). "The Last Frontier" is the same book as "The Secret Ways" (the Count, Jansci, & Reynolds in communist Hungary). He wrote 27 novels in all, plus "The Lonely Sea" (a collection of short stories). Trivia tidbit--In his descriptions of a moaning wind (through the rigging of a ship, on the ice cap, etc.), many of his books contain a not very common, but very descriptive word; meaning 'song of lamentation for the dead'-- THRENODY-- Look for it.

Great page! I'm a new MacLean fan. I just found his books recently in a Used Books store, but I couldn't find the one book I'm looking for. I don't remember the name, and was trying to find it on the internet. It's about this one James Bond like main char cter and his new female partner. I think he's some type of secret agent. They go on a boat, and it is ship wrecked, and they end up on an island where the bad guy they were looking for happens to be. The bad guy lets them stay with him, and the hero finds out who he is later, etc. I would really appreciate it if someone could E-mail me the name of the book. I'm looking for it, but since I don't even remember the name of the characters, and no internet sites I've found summarize the books, I can't find it a ywhere.

Alistair Maclean is a terrific writer. In particular I like his first-hand stories such as Ice Station Zebra. He is a very cunning writer, that successfully mixes suspense and romance, but does not touch on them with lavishly, making the reader want more. Once I start reading one of his books I cannot put them down! I am contemplating reading his books for a second time.

I've been reading Alistair Maclean since the late sixties, and still love most of everything he's written. One of the things I am interested in concerning Mr. Maclean is, are there any literary studies of Mr. Maclean's work? I cannot find any in my libr ry here in Charlotte, NC, USA. I've recently discovered a half decent book by Alistair MacNeill (I think), it's a third in the Navarone series, called; get this "Storm Force From Navarone" (Storm is Force 10). I just wandered if anyone else thought "The guns of Navarone" film is completely unjust to the book.

The Black Shrike is another AListair Maclean novel he wrote under a different name (it escapes me right now but I can find it at home). I have read every story at least 3 times!!! I have found some other titles on the Internet I was not aware of and am ooking into that. I also have read all of MacNeil's books too (he published some stories MacLean started but never finished. I'd love to chat about McLean if you want. He is by far the best mystery, espionage writer I have ever read.

I got the A. Maclean bug, years ago. I like all the old ones. I think I got disappointed with Golden Gate and some of the later books. Also I don't like people making books up under his name after he is dead. Having said that thrillers such as the Sat n Bug, Where Eagles Dare, Ice Station Zebra ... have no equals.
