It all started in January 1980 while living in Biharamulo District - Kagera (formaerly known as West Lake).I joined Muslim Primary School, then a decent Primary school available in that town. I did not stay long enough, as in June 1980 we were forced to leave the town after my parents were separated -- I think Father divorced Mother.

In July 1980 I joined Kashasha Primary school in Bukoba Rural as a P1 pupil. Now that we are in a village with Grandparents and without my mother, my physical life started to deteriorate seriously. I was very often suffering Malaria and other skin diseases. Indeed I could not stand the village life. Note that my Father got transfered from Biharamulo to Bukoba town.!! And was working as a veterenary Officer. Therefore the only way was to transfer me to another school in town were will be staying with my father.

In Bukoba town, I succesfully joined the Rumuli Primary School. The school was in all cases the best in the entire Kagera region -- leave alone Bukoba Town, may be because all Regional top officials kids were studying there. Physically and probably phsycologically I looked different as I was the only student without a pair of shoe and a nice trouser for Sunday Mass at Bukoba Cathedral -- It was a must to attend Mass.!!! Otherwise academically I was doing very well to the extent of being NUMBER 1 in a class of 40 students STD II. That atleast made me a "child-of-value".

Remember that this was the time when my family has just got to the village, and it was therefore very necessary for all of us to get involved in clearing the bush and tilling the land in order to plant plant banana and coffee. Therefore each and every Friday I and my father we had to go back to village to join hand with others in village work, that was at 2:00pm, so I had to get out of the class earlier enough, around 12:00noon, to get prepared for a trip to Nkaka (my home village). My head teacher -- Mama Kakengi by then, was a very understanding Primary school teacher I have met. She accepted the situation and life went on. The situation stayed like this up 1983 whn my Father started to think about re-tirement and indeed he ritered in 1985. Also note that sometimes when we missed the bus/lorry/pick-up from Nkaka to Town I had to go to Kashasha for that day lecture!!! (Amzing), and Kashasha teachers accpted it as well..
